From Internships to New Beginnings
Before starting my career in Yogyakarta, I had already gained internship experience with a good salary (around Rp4.0 million) in Bandung.
At the end of 2016, I moved to Yogyakarta because I wanted to pursue a religious journey. I knew of several Dakwah movements in Sleman and Bantul, and I became very interested in learning the basics of my religion.
At that time, the minimum wage in Yogyakarta was around Rp1,452,400, and I was earning only Rp1.5 million while working at an agency.
Was it enough?
No. Starting a career as a fresh graduate with a diploma takes work and time in Jogja.
During my university studies in Bandung, I rarely asked my parents for money. However, after moving to Yogyakarta, I had to ask them for monthly support, even though I am part of the sandwich generation.
A Religious Journey and Financial Struggles
Moving to Yogyakarta meant a downgrade in salary at that time but an upgrade in my journey to becoming a better Muslim.
By improving my religious practices, Allah improved my life.
A year later, in the third quarter of 2017, I earned a double-digit income in one month. At that time, I was working part-time as a blog writer and offering website development services.
Although it happened only once and was rare at that time, the question “Is it possible to earn double-digit income in Yogyakarta?” was answered.
The answer is...
Ya. It is possible.
Opportunities in Yogyakarta
Nowadays, several companies in Yogyakarta can offer such opportunities with a double-digit salary, especially for job titles like:
- Product, Project, Operation, Engineer, HR, Marketing and CS Manager
- Fullstack, Backend, and Frontend Developer
- DevOps, Site Reliability Engineer
- SEO Specialist
- Data Engineer and Analyst
- Etc.
It's proven that after working in Product Management at a global company (Europe and Singapore) from Yogyakarta, I finally earned double digits in a month.
Alhamdulillah.
However, I realized that despite working tirelessly, including participating in bootcamps, speaking at events, and freelancing, the remaining balance in my account stayed the same due to my expenses.
It’s not increased significantly.
Did you know that your income from Allah is entrusted to you for your wife, children, parents, and people around?
Everyone has their predetermined share of sustenance.

- Understand that it takes time to reach that level
- Keep working hard
- Get married; more Rizqi will be coming
- Do not overexert yourself, as your Rizqi is already predetermined
- Look for onsite job options in Yogyakarta from top startups (Hostinger, Privy, AccelByte, Cakap, etc.)
- Seek remote job options from top-tier Indonesian startups or corporations
- Explore remote job opportunities from global companies (Singapore, US, UK)
- Start a side business or work as a freelancer on platforms like Upwork
- Realize that if you do not achieve it, Allah will reward your prayers and hard work with blessings in the Akhirah

Earning a double-digit income in Yogyakarta is indeed possible. It requires hard work, patience, and faith. By continuously improving ourselves and seeking the right opportunities, we can achieve financial success while staying true to our values and beliefs.
